I founded Descendants Art Gallery in 2019 in Oakland, CA. Taking a step back from curating to refocus on my own artistic practice, it has evolved into Descendants Art Studio and showcases my current work. The whale wearing the flower crown combines the two defining cultures in my life. From my Swiss heritage where every autumn farmers parade their cows, adorned with flower crowns, through town after bringing them down from the alps where they have been feasting on the freshest grass and wildflowers which will aid in producing the amazing cheese that the Swiss are known for. To the humpback whale, a mighty fine sight to see off the coast of California, who I sometimes imagine descending into the depths with to figure out what is going on down there. This sense of celebration and paying homage is what Descendants is founded on.

As I have dived deeper into the floral aspect of my work, I now offer dried flower workshops! If you are interested in booking one, please reach out to me.

I am a mixed media artist who was born in the mountains of Switzerland and now live and work in Petaluma, CA. In my work I explore themes related to environmental studies and the effects of climate change. I utilize drawing, painting, sculpture, photography and floral elements to create my pieces. My grandmother owned a floral shop in Bern and working with her in the summers was where my fascination with flowers began. Moving to the coast of California aided in igniting a fascination with the ocean. Many of us think of the ocean as an endless expanse, but the reality is that no part of it is free from anthropogenic impact. The aqueous nature of my work is inspired by what lies beneath this immense surface and how the natural processes of our oceans are changing faster than ever before.

I received a Bachelor of Arts in Painting and Drawing from San Francisco State University in 2012 and curated art exhibits for the following nine years before moving to Sonoma County. I hold building and working in artistic communities very highly and look forward to continuing to collaborate with and promote fellow artists while also working on my own art practice.

I donate 10% of all art sales to Mission Blue.

“Mission Blue is an initiative of the Sylvia Earle Alliance to ignite public support for the protection of Hope Spots; special places that are vital to the health of the ocean. Hope Spots can become a reality and form a global network of marine protected areas large enough to restore the ocean, the blue heart of the planet.”
